Screen Tester is a free collection of 53 online screen tests and tools for monitors, laptops, TVs, phones and tablets. We help people check their screens quickly, honestly and privately, right in the browser.
Every screen deserves an honest check, and everyone deserves the tools to do it, free.
A new monitor, a second-hand phone, a TV just out of the box: the only way to know a screen is right is to test it. We build the tests, explain the results in plain English and keep them free for everyone.
We are a small team of display enthusiasts, developers and writers who build free tools for checking screens and explain what the results mean. Screen Tester is based in Los Angeles, California, and used by people around the world.
Screen Tester started with a simple frustration: checking a new screen for faults meant hunting for test images, guessing what counted as normal and reading forum threads full of conflicting advice. We wanted one place where anyone could open a test, see the problem clearly and know what to do next, without installing software or creating an account.
Today the site covers pixels, color, uniformity, motion and refresh rate, screens by device type, and hardware such as keyboards, mice, microphones and webcams. Every test page pairs the tool with a guide written in plain language, so the result is useful whether you are keeping the screen, returning it or making a warranty claim.
Why we build Screen Tester, and where we want it to go.
We turn the checks that used to need special software or expert knowledge into tests anyone can run in a browser in a few minutes.
We want every screen buyer to know exactly what they are getting, and every seller and brand to be held to an honest standard.
These six principles guide what we build, what we write and what we leave out.
No paywalls, trials or premium tiers. A good screen check should not depend on what you can pay.
Tests run on your device. We do not need your results, so we do not collect them.
We draw patterns pixel for pixel, cite real standards and never promise fixes that do not exist.
We explain every result in everyday words, so you do not need to be a display expert.
Every test is checked on monitors, laptops, phones and TVs across the major browsers.
Many tools and fixes start as user messages. We read every one and act on what we learn.

6 toolsA screen test is only useful if you can trust it. This is the process every tool and guide goes through.
We build tests for the faults people actually report: dead pixels, bleed, burn-in, blur and wrong refresh rates.
We base guidance on published standards and manufacturer documents rather than forum myths.
Patterns are drawn at your screen's real resolution and pixel ratio, so nothing is scaled or blurred by the page.
Each tool is checked on monitors, laptops, phones and TVs in Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox.
Every test page says what a healthy screen looks like, what counts as a fault and what to do next.
We review pages when standards or products change, and fix reported errors once we confirm them.
Plenty of sites show a colored screen. We focus on making the result useful.
We size every test to your device pixel ratio, so a one-pixel line is one real pixel and faults are not hidden by scaling.
Tap faults to log their position, rate zones and download a report you can attach to a return or warranty claim.
Each tool sits next to a clear guide: what the fault is, how much is normal, and your options if it fails.
Tools that flash ask first and offer a gentle, no-flash mode, in line with accessibility guidance on flashing content.
From first-time buyers to repair benches, these are the people we build for.
Checking a new or used monitor, TV, laptop or phone before the return window closes.
Dead pixel testConfirming refresh rate, checking ghosting and input lag, and tuning a gaming setup.

Anyone checking a screen: people buying a new monitor, TV or phone, gamers tuning a setup, photographers and designers checking color, and repair and IT teams testing devices before handing them over.
No. Every test runs in a modern web browser such as Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox. Open the page, press Full Screen and the test runs on the screen in front of you.
No. The tests run on your own device, and the marks, ratings and reports you create stay in your browser. They are only shared if you download a report and send it yourself.
The patterns are drawn pixel for pixel at your screen resolution, so what you see is the panel itself. They are visual tests rather than lab measurements with a colorimeter, so they are ideal for spotting faults and comparing settings.
Any device with a modern browser: Windows and Mac computers, Chromebooks, Android and iPhone, tablets and smart TV browsers. On iPhone, Safari does not allow full screen for web pages, so tests fill the browser window.
